Severe Weather Information

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Hennepin County, which includes the City of Bloomington, from Noon Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday. The warning is for a significant snowfall event (8-10 inches) with the greatest intensity of the storm Friday afternoon into evening.

The timing of the weather system will have an impact on transporting students home. As a result, we plan to release middle and high school students at

2:15 p.m. tomorrow. Elementary school students will be dismissed at the normal time. By dismissing secondary schools 20 minutes early, our school buses can stay on schedule given the challenges of the weather and traffic in difficult conditions.

The following programs and activities will also be impacted:

  • Early Learners Academy (ELA) will close according to the following times: 3:20 p.m. at Poplar Bridge and Westwood, and 3:50 p.m. at Hillcrest. Please make arrangements for all students to be picked up at this time.

  • The Kids’ SAFARI and Galaxy after-school programs will be cancelled. Please make arrangements for students to be picked up, ride the bus or walk home at the school’s dismissal time.

  • All after-school activity buses will be cancelled.

  • High school activities and athletics will not be cancelled at this time.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. However, we believe this is necessary for students to get home safe. Thank you for your understanding.
